Née
Synth-pop gets a bad rap for being all plastic and no heart, as if no one has ever lost their shit to “True Faith” or “Tainted Love.” Sure enough, Née’s Kristin Dennis shakes plenty of glitter and pomp over her pop-savvy tunes - pulse-quickening drum machine rhythms keep time for buzzy arpeggios and swooping glissandos that dart around her like neon lightning bugs. But it doesn’t take much to tell that Dennis wears her heart on her chiffon sleeve; last year’s The Hands of Thieves EP grounded its pop confections with themes of heartbreak and hope. This year has brought the excellent, radio-ready “Pretty Girls” single as well as a solidified four-person line-up featuring longtime drummer Mic Boshans (Humdrum) alongside synthesist Lex Herbert and Old Lights’ David Beeman on guitar and keys. As Dennis turns her one-woman project into a full-fledged band, the payoffs increase with the personnel.

We have the distinct pleasure of announcing that “Pretty Girls” is the featured MP3 download of the day at AOL’s Spinner.com. If you aren’t familiar, Spinner is a great blog/music site that lets you listen to full albums, download exclusive content, and read news items about your favorite bands. We’re really happy to be a part of such a vibrant and respected online presence.
We were happy to play Midwest Mayhem at the ever-incredible City Museum this past week. Stilts were mounted, grown men were spanked by roller girls and the grand finalé for the burlesque show involved a man with a mohawk stripping down to a jockstrap to Sleigh Bells. And it was awesome.

Our good friend in Adult Fur just had his album remixed by a bunch local musicians, including Née. Check it, yo!
We were happy to play RSD at one of our favorite record stores in town, Apop. It was a real South City STL street party complete with cheap beer, mis-handled fireworks and blood on the microphone. The excellent Jarred Gastreich managed to capture some of the fun via photo. Bet!

We’re happy to announce we’ll be playing with Penguin Prison and Class actress 5/31/12 at The Firebird. It’s going to be a dance party (you’ve come to expect that, we understand) so you might want to break out your Thighmaster and get a rep schedule going between then and now.
Oh, and Kristin made a poster. Prints available at the show… free to Kickstarter backers at poster level.

Great news, friends. FILTER MAGAZINE (which we all know and love) has chosen Née for their regular feature, “Discovering the Undiscovered”. We’re already on the website (see below!) and there’s much more to come. Thanks to the kind people of Filter, we’re hoping to reach a wider audience and get FINCHES into many more hands. Looking forward to much this year and more besides. Thanks to all of you who have made all of this possible so far.
Even though our last shoot was derailed thanks to Kristin’s body nearly shutting down and dying, the amazing folks at First Punch were able to reschedule and, after two days of shooting over Easter weekend…. IT. IS. FINISHED! More photos from behind the scenes to come. We can’t wait to show you all the amazingness. Thanks to all who gave their time, effort and creativity to the shoot. We love you.
